What you see on first launch #
Chimely opens with a short four-card intro — LED Clock, Quarter-hour Chimes, Prayer Times and Home-screen Widgets. It advances by itself; tap anywhere to skip. After that you land on the clock face.
You can watch it again at any time: Settings › ⋮ › View intro
Getting around #
Chimely has five tabs along the bottom:
| Tab | What it is for |
|---|---|
| Clock | The full-screen LED clock, the prayer board, and the buttons that open the calendar, the Qibla compass and Settings. |
| Alarms | Your own alarms, and the linked bedtime wake-up row. |
| Timer | A single countdown timer. |
| Stopwatch | Elapsed time with laps. |
| Bedtime | Sleep dial, wake alarm and wind-down reminder. |
Settings lives behind the gear icon at the top right of the Clock tab, and is split into five tabs: Chimes, Appearance, Widgets, Prayer and Troubleshooting.
1. Allow notifications #
Android asks for notification permission the first time you open the Alarms tab. Say yes. Without it Android suppresses both the alarm notification and the full-screen ring screen — so an alarm can ring with nothing on screen to stop it, and the timer and bedtime reminders stay silent in the shade.
Chimely cannot ask twice. Re-enable it in Android: Settings › Apps › Chimely › Notifications
2. Set your location #
Until you set it, prayer times are calculated for Makkah. There are two ways to change that:
- Detect it. Tap the crosshair icon (Detect location) at the top right of the Clock tab. If a location is already saved, Chimely asks “Change location?” first. If the coordinates do not land on a known city, it offers to name the place so it appears in your recents next time.
- Type it. Settings › Prayer › Location › Enter manually then fill in Name (e.g. city), Latitude and Longitude. This skips location permission entirely.
Location is read only when you tap detect — never in the background, never continuously — and Chimely asks only for approximate location. Prayer times and the Qibla bearing are computed entirely on your phone; your coordinates are never transmitted. See the privacy policy.
3. Turn the chimes on #
Chimes are off on a fresh install. This surprises a lot of people. Turn them on at Settings › Chimes › Chimes enabled — see Quarter-hour chimes. Prayer times, by contrast, are on from the start.
4. Stop your phone silencing it #
This is the single most important step on Xiaomi, Redmi, POCO, Vivo, iQOO, Oppo, Realme, OnePlus and Huawei phones. Work through Settings › Troubleshooting and grant everything it offers. Full detail in Reliability & troubleshooting.
Chimely shows one “Psst — try this” tip card per session, each pointing at a real feature. Browse them all at Settings › ⋮ › View tips, or tick Don’t show tips on a card to stop them appearing on their own.
